Matt was admitted to the Alberta Bar on July 15, 2008. He has a Bachelor of Education with Distinction from the University of Alberta (2001) and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of New Brunswick (2007). Matt is a member of the Law Society of Alberta, the Canadian Bar Association, the Lethbridge Bar Association and the J. Reuben Clark Law Society.

Matt has appeared before the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta, the Provincial Court of Alberta and the Refugee Protection Division of the Immigration and Refugee Board.

Matt is fluent in Spanish. He is a volunteer with the Lethbridge Legal Guidance Centre, the Public Legal Education Program (Lethbridge College), Lethbridge Family Services – Immigrant Services, and is active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoys spending time with his family and friends and playing on a recreational softball team.
