Richard was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 1981.  He has a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Alberta (1980).  Richard is a member of the Law Society of Alberta, the Lethbridge Bar Association and the J. Reuben Clark Law Society.

Richard has been and continues to be very active in the community.  He has been a volunteer leader for Scouts Canada (1981-1984; 1988-1997), a member of the Board of Directors for the Provincial Council for the Duke of Edinburgh Award (1999-2004), Canadian Bar Association, Sub-Section Chair (1987-1991), President of the Lethbridge Bar Association (2008).  He is very involved in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Richard enjoys spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
